The Big Goodbye, a brand new comedy by South
Shields writer Wayne Miller will this month receive its World
Premier at The Customs House Theatre. On Friday 24th and Saturday 25th
June, The Big Goodbye will be the big farewell to Miller’s trilogy of plays set
in the world of “disorganised” crime.
The Big Goodbye tells the story of Jacks, who is attending his best friend Jerry’s funeral to say his farewells
and to remember the good times. The only problem is, he’s amongst those
who don’t have such fond memories and are there to make sure Jerry really is
dead. Jacks must survive the bad buffet, dirt digging, back-stabbing and full
on family warfare.
After his previous
critically acclaimed plays The Big Time
and The Big Hit, Miller hopes to
repeat the success of the previous two. He says “I’ve put together a cast that
I know will be perfect to give my final piece the send off it deserves. It’s a
great mix of talent, that will bring the laughs, the tears and the performances
that audiences will not want to miss”
The cast “just announced”
will be Craig Richardson as Jacks, Patricia Whale as Claire, Brogan Gilbert as
Lady Vicar and Luke Maddison as Joey. This is a host of well known actors to
the North East, who are looking forward to bringing this comedy to life.
“It’s so nice having a
cast who are so keen to work on your script and bring it off the page. It
creates a great buzz and excitement in rehearsals, something I hope we can give
the audience too” explains Wayne Miller
Actor Luke Maddison adds
“I always love working with Wayne and I've been really lucky
to be cast in the final play of his trilogy The Big Goodbye I've seen the two previous shows and each time I loved the way in which they had
been written, so
it's quite exciting to get a crack at this type of piece from the inside.”
After starting the year appearing
in and being part of the creative teams of The Customs House’s The Rabbits Tail, Cranked Anvil’s Romeo & Juliet and Hamlet. Miller is very much looking
forward to taking a step back, off the stage and letting The Big Goodbye be a
great night of laughs, with a talented North East cast. This promises to be a
funeral like no other!
