MISCHIEF
MAKERS HEADING TO NEWCASTLE
The Play That Goes Wrong
Newcastle Theatre Royal
Tuesday 17th –
Saturday 21st January 2017
Smash
hit comedy, The Play That Goes Wrong has announced a stellar cast as then riotous
Olivier Award winner comes to Newcastle Theatre Royal Tuesday 17th –
Saturday 21st January 2017. The North East Theatre
Guide winessed the hilarious spectacle back in 2014 and we still think it is
one of the funniest shows that we have ever witnessed. (NETG Review LINK).
Katie
Bernstein will play the role of Annie alongside Jason Callender as Jonathan, Edward
Howells as Dennis, Edward Judge as Robert, Alastair Kirton as Max, Meg Mortell
as Sandra, Graeme Rooney as Trevor and Patrick Warner as Chris.
Co-written
by Mischief Theatre company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry
Shields, The Play That Goes Wrong is a highly physical comedy packed with finely-tuned
farce and Buster Keaton inspired slapstick delivered with split-second timing and
ambitious daring.
The
play introduces The ‘Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society’ who are attempting to
put on a 1920s’ murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can
go wrong…does, as the accident prone thespians battle on against all the odds
to get to their final curtain call.
Currently
enjoying its third year in the West End where it continues to
play to packed houses, The Play That Goes Wrong will see Mischief Theatre
triumphantly return to Newcastle Theatre Royal following the phenomenal success
of Peter Pan Goes Wrong in 2015.
The
Play That Goes Wrong is a remarkable rags to riches story; starting its life at
a London fringe venue with only four paying members at the first public performance
it has since played to an audience of over half a million and is set to receive
its Broadway debut in 2017.
Mischief
Theatre was founded in 2008 by a group of graduates of The London Academy of
Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and began as an improvised comedy group. The company
performs across the UK and internationally with improvised and original scripted
work and will makes its television debut this Christmas on BBC One with a TV production
of Peter Pan Goes Wrong filmed in
front of a live studio audience and featuring guest star David Suchet as the
narrator. The company is led by Artistic Director Henry Lewis and Company
Director Jonathan Sayer.
The
Play That Goes Wrong is directed by Mark Bell, with set designs by Nigel Hook, lighting
by Ric Mountjoy and costumes by Roberto Surace. The Play That Goes Wrong is
produced in the West End and on tour by Kenny Wax Ltd and Stage Presence
Ltd.
