An Evening With Savvy B
Newcastle Alphabetti Theatre
Monday 5th - Saturday 10th September 2016

Don’t miss the world premiere of An Evening with Savvy B at Alphabetti Theatre from Tuesday 6th to Saturday 10th September at 7.30pm. Created by north east based theatre makers Hannah Walker and Rosa Postlethwaite An Evening with Savvy B takes a darkly comic look at who we become when we drink and what it takes to sparkle.

Featuring: live drinking, the re-release of Hannah’s single that she made when she was sixteen (and thought was really good) and a hearty mouthful of public shaming, An Evening with Savvy B promises to be the best night ever.

Director Rosa Postlethwaite and performer Hannah Walker collaborate to create a funny, touching and raucous one-woman show about Sauvignon Blanc, selective memory and self-image. As director Rosa explains: “We can't wait to bond with you over An Evening with Savvy B. Expect inward looking, oversharing and an awful lot of wine tasting as Hannah pulls apart this daily ritual.”

As ARC's Programming Manager Chloe Lawrence explains about a Scratch performance of the show: “An Evening with Savvy B had me gripped from beginning to end, a difficult look at the binge drinking culture of the UK offset by a character you can’t help but fall in love with.”

Hannah and Rosa devise new work that straddles theatre and live art, approaching subject matters with care and generosity. An audience member described their work as ‘funny, glossy and honest’. Inspired by the alternative cabaret scene they make shows that are as effervescent and potent as the drinks they mix.

At a work-in-progress showing of An Evening with Savvy B at ARC (Stockton) an audience member said: “Absolutely stunning, engaging performance on film and stage.”

A unique, bold and honest show, An evening with Savvy B innovately incorporates film elements with live performance. Co-written by Hannah and Rosa, it draws on autobiographical material creating a show that invites conversation around the social issues of drinking.

An Evening with Savvy B has been supported by the Sunday for Sammy Trust and Arts Council England.
