Preview: Grand Opening Show at Newcastle Alphabetti Theatre

New Newcastle Fringe Theatre
Opens March 2015

Grand Opening Show
Newcastle Alphabetti Theatre
Saturday March 7th 2015

Alphabetti Theatre is changing the face of the performing arts scene in Newcastle upon Tyne. After 18 months operating from a room above a pub, they have reclaimed a disused basement on New Bridge Street West and created Newcastle’s most exciting new venue for comedy, music, theatre and poetry.

Described as “original, off the wall and clever” and “one of the city’s most innovative theatres”, Alphabetti Theatre has been making and programming original work across the performing arts in Newcastle since 2012. Originally based above a pub, they have already created over 3,000 opportunities for performers.

Now they have made a new home on New Bridge Street West!
Some artists in Newcastle refuse to give in to austerity, and have turned derelict offices into galleries and studios. Now a basement has been transformed into an intimate independent theatre – Alphabetti Theatre.

Grand opening — New Bridge Street West

Alphabetti will launch an exciting new season of original work at a Grand Opening of their new venue, at The Basement, 16 New Bridge Street West, 7.30p m, Saturday March 7th.

At the Grand Opening Alphabetti will say thank you to Sunday for Sammy, Arts Council England, and nearly 100 people who sup-ported the new venue through online crowd funding. Supporters and special invited guests will get a sneak preview of Alphabetti’s new season in one-off show of music, puppetry and spoken word, hosted by Alphabetti’s Artistic Director Ali Pritchard.

The new season includes The Frights, Alphabetti's first full length production, in development since 2013, and Frank Su-matra by Mike Yeaman who scored international success with Lucky Numbers. There will also be spoken word, music and com-edy at our monthly Alphabetti Soup. As well as puppetry and poetry workshops, a writers and directors showcase called Write Back, and original events the 24Hour Theatre Challenge and the anarchic Quest to Stardom.
