Preview: Sunderland Stages Autumn 2017/18

Sunderland Stages returns for another corker of a season.

If you haven’t heard of Sunderland Stages yet? They’re are on a mission to bring unique theatre and performance to amazing places and spaces in Sunderland; attend a show and you know you’re in for a really good but different day or night out. They’ve had shows in car parks and churches, a theatre pub quiz in a pub and so much more!

And they proper love Sunderland. They’ve just announced our absolutely jam packed new season of unforgettable shows at the likes of The Peacock, Pop Recs Ltd, Miss Tina’s, Arts Centre Washington and many other brilliant spaces in Sunderland.

For the first show of the season, On 14th September, Mr Drayton brings his first Record Player of the season to Pop Recs Ltd. Comedian, music-aficionado BBC Producer/Presenter and know-it-all Mr Drayton, offers you the opportunity to enjoy The Futureheads’ classic album in its entirety, end to end like it only should be; grab a drink or two whilst he drops the needle on this good vinyl.

This 2004 debut captures the fire, energy and class of a band, one of Sunderland’s finest on the very top of their game. And what better way to kick off this Sunderland Stages season than with the actual, real life Futureheads in conversation over a pint!? Yes that’s right – the Futureheads will be there taking part.

A sharp, moving and unflinching new play based on the real life stories of women who have faced and survived coercive control in domestic abuse, Rattle Snake is an epic tale and an exciting new co-production between Open Clasp and Live Theatre. On Wednesday 4th October it comes to Sunderland’s Royalty Theatre

Other highlights this season include First Person by Zest Theatre – pop on your head-set, enter a virtual reality world and compete to win, I Hate Alone by Middle Child– an unmissable theatre gig, think Thelma and Louise x 11 and Disaster party by theatre hot property fanSHEN – a show where you, the audience are the actors and play out the story (over some fish and chips!).

Their family programme is also bumper packed this season with an Icelandic magical puppet show Troll as part of TakeOff Festival and their show stopping Canny Carnival for under 5s and families with a cracking festival line-up!

And that is only the beginning…so check out the programme and we look forward to welcoming you to a Sunderland Stages show!
