Two familiar faces will join the cast of a new Customs House production.
This summer’s show End of
the Pier will star Bob Stott, known to many as Dame Dotty, and Wayne Miller who
plays Elfluent in the theatre’s annual under seven’s panto.
They’ll play manager
Barnaby and stage door keeper Tam and will join writer and director of the
piece Neil Armstrong and Zoe Lambert as quarrelling couple Lionel and Edith.

Bob, who played dame
opposite Customs House Executive Director Ray Spencer for almost 40 years,
said: “I’m so happy to be back at The Customs House and I'm looking forward to
meeting up and working with Neil and Wayne.
It’s been too long since we worked together, however two of my favourite
theatrical memories are tied up in these two good friends and took place at The
Customs House: most recently with Neil when I had the great pleasure of
performing in Neil’s comedy thriller Dark Side of the Half Moon and some time
ago now with Wayne in Tom Kelly’s Ride a White Swan: as Brothers Joe and Mark. Add to the mix the talented Zoe Lambert and I
am sure our audience will have as good a time watching The End of the Pier as
we are going to have rehearsing and performing it.”

Ion Productions in
association with The Customs House are bringing a new version packed with extra
laughs to the South Shields theatre for a five-night run next week.

Set in a tatty end of the
pier dressing room in Edwardian England, End of the Pier tells the story of
Lionel and Edith Bosh, a music hall double act known as The Lovebirds.
They’ve been married for
25 years, but the love has gone and their only desire now is to kill each
other, with each plotting to do so on the same night.
Unfortunately things
don't go according to either of their plans when an unexpected guest arrives in
their dressing room.

Wayne, who has played
Elfluent in Santa’s Naughty Elf for the last nine years, added: “I've shared
the stage with Neil, Zoe and Bob before, but never all together in one
production, so I can't wait to be surrounded by such a quality cast. Mix that in with the chance to bring to life
a script that is a comedy gem and I feel I’m one lucky actor!”
Gareth Hunter, artistic
director of Ion Productions, added: “We have an absolutely fantastic cast that
I know audiences will enjoy watching. It’s going to be a fantastic show.”

Pier runs from Tuesday 22nd August, from Saturday
26th August 2017, with shows at 7.30pm and a 2.30pm matinee on Thursday and
Saturday.
