Preview: Peter Pan at Seaton Deleval Arts Centre

Peter Pan
Seaton Deleval Arts Centre
Saturday 7th March 2015

A modern twist on the classic tale of Peter Pan comes to Seaton Delaval this month presented by Duckegg Theatre Company, a Social Enterprise with its roots in North Lincolnshire, dedicated to the creation of brand-spanking new writing with young people at its heart.  Their family musical, ‘Peter Pan’, adapted from the J.M. Barrie classic by award winning playwright Haley Cox with music by Phil Collingwood, comes to the Seaton Delaval Arts Centre for two performances on Saturday 7th March.  The production deals with themes of small town mentality, youth aspiration and the challenges of following your dreams, developed in workshop with 120 young people aged 12-19.

It’s five minutes until closing time at Priceland. Join A Level student and cashier Wendy Darling as she takes us into the timeless story of Peter Pan – second star to the left and straight on ’til morning!  Throw in a misunderstood Captain Hook, a hot guitarist Peter Pan, a Tinker Bell straight out of ‘TOWIE’ and a sprinkle of fairy dust (oh, and an awesome soundtrack!) and you get a sparkling show guaranteed to get your toes tapping.

The cast merges four professional actors (including Newsrevue’s Sean Keating, ex ‘The Mousetrap’ actress Eve Pearson and Spotlight Award finalist James Mountain) with young people from Duckegg’s youth theatre.  Young people are the company’s lifeblood and they rightfully place them at the heart of everything they do.  The youth members are valued in every area of the company and have tangible input into the performance and touring work.

Tickets:

Peter Pan takes to the stage on Saturday 7th March at 1.00pm and 6.00pm. Tickets are priced at £8.00 with concessions at £7.00 and family tickets at £26.00 available from the Box Office on 0191 237 5460 or book online at www.seatondelavalartscentre.com

Preview: The New Ropes Band at Seaton Delaval Arts Centre

New Rope String Band:
Give’m Enough Rope, The Farewell Tour

The New Ropes Band
Seaton Delaval Arts Centre
Sunday 15th February 2015

Manic minstrels, The New Ropes will be calling in at the Seaton Delaval Arts Centre for an evening of hilarity and Python-esque absurdism spliced with beautiful acoustic music from various world traditions, in a precision-honed yet uproarious performance as part of their Farewell Tour.

The New Rope String Band have come to the end of their tether. The sheer strain of spreading joy around the world for more than 25 years as Old and New Rope has proved too much. Audiences’ laughter muscles have been stretched and twanged and they, too, need a rest. But, before these ageing folk-cabaret artistes go their separate ways, heading for new and exciting theatrical and musical horizons, they have decided to do a farewell lap of honour, a celebratory extravaganza of their finest routines with some specially-created final flourishes. Expect fish tanks, boiled eggs, fiddles, banjos, cardboard guitars, theremins, explosions, interactive films, drainpipes, mermaids, pink y-fronts, thrills, spills, tears and hilarity.

The New Rope String Band are: Pete Challoner, Tim Dalling and Jock Tyldesley. Once seen, never forgotten: combining superb musicianship with side-splitting comic genius. For diehard audiences it’s a chance to come along, laugh once more and say goodbye. For those who’ve never seen them, wake up, this is your last chance!

Partnering with Highlights Touring Scheme, Seaton Delaval Arts Centre welcomes audiences to a night of top notch music and merry mayhem – and a final chance to enjoy these truly unique entertainers.
Mark Pringle, theatre director at the Arts Centre said “We are delighted to welcome the popular comedy trio to our venue for one of their very last performances. They’ve become well known in the North East and its great give our local audience a chance to see them go out with a bang.”

The show takes place on Sunday 15th February at 7.00pm. Tickets are priced at £8.00 for full price and £7.00 for concessions and available from the Box Office on 0191 237 5460 or online at www.seatondelavalartscentre.com.

Preview: MONEY the game show on NE tour

MONEY the game show
Written and directed by Clare Duffy
Designed by Rhys Jarman Lighting Design by Richard Godin.
Sound Design by Matt Angove. Original Music by David Edwards
An Unlimited Theatre and Bush Theatre co-production

MONEY the game show is a playful journey through the madness of the financial system from Leeds-based Unlimited Theatre and London’s acclaimed new writing venue the Bush Theatre.

Casino and Queenie used to be hedge fund managers. Before the financial crisis of 2008, that is. Now, in an inspired - or desperate - career move, they’ve turned to performance art to share their stories of how to make (and lose) billions from economic downturn.

Playing with £10,000 in real pound coins, you are invited to bet long, short and hedge, as game show hosts Casino and Queenie challenge you to play a series of high stake games that show how the world’s economic system came to the brink of collapse.

Risk takers to the front, risk averse to the back. Welcome to MONEY the game show.

The Bush Theatre teams up with Unlimited Theatre to take a playful and politically sharp look at the roots of the 2008 financial crisis and its ongoing impact in 2014, as well as tackle the bigger questions: What is money? What is it worth? And what happens when we stop believing in it?
MONEY the game show was first developed as part of the Platform 18: New Directions Award, supported by The Arches, Traverse Theatre and National Theatre of Scotland. It was fully produced by Unlimited Theatre and the Bush Theatre, with the full production receiving its world premiere in Feb 2013. The Autumn 2014 tour is presented as part of REACH, a project bringing new theatre to the North East, managed by ARC Stockton and Dep Arts Ltd and funded by Arts Council England.

Clare Duffy is a founding member of Unlimited Theatre, a freelance playwright and has recently completed a PhD by practice in writing for performance at Glasgow University. Her first full length play, Crossings, was commissioned by Sgript Cymru, won a Pearson award and a year-long residency at the West Yorkshire Playhouse where she wrote A Good Man. She has co-written most of Unlimited's work, including Neutrino, Zero Degrees and Drifting, Tangle, The Moon The Moon, Mission to Mars and The Giant and The Bear. Other works include Local Reality Expo (CCA, Unity Theatre / Homotopia, Chapter Arts Centre), The Fall (BBC Radio 4), Black Tonic (The Other Way Works, national touring) and Ana (Stellar Quines and Imago Theatre, Montreal). In 2011 Duffy was awarded the Platform 18: New Directions Award to begin work on MONEY the game show (Traverse, The Arches).

Based in Leeds UK, Unlimited is what happens when the artists Clare Duffy, Jon Spooner and Chris Thorpe make new work together. This work is always co-created with equal partnership in the creative process and in collaboration with an expanding pool of associate artists, scientists, technologists and educators. At its heart is a sincere engagement with its audience both in the process and moment of (co)creation. Unlimited formed in 1997 and is currently the resident company at West Yorkshire Playhouse. Recent shows include The Noise, The Giant & The Bear, Mission To Mars and The Ethics of Progress and recent awards for the company include Sir Arthur Clarke Award for Achievement in Space Education and Outreach 2011; National Charity Awards 2011 (Arts, Culture and Heritage); and WISE Champion Award 2011.
