Blueswater Presents: Cat Loud's Wayward Girls ★★★★★

Cat Loud appears in a sublime cabaret piece that combines fabulously performed musical numbers twisted around a well crafted story of a girl being led astray.

The story goes that a girl is taking a walk in a park, accompanied by her torch and trusty rape alarm.  She appears to be in the wrong end of the park. Before she knows it a white rabbit leads her to a bar. She proceeds to have a night to remember in a night of forbidden love and fantasy. This is no ordinary speakeasy.

Between the chapters of the story are really lovely songs. The musical arrangement in, for example, the Doors classic Light My Fire and took ownership.   Beautiful slabs of blues that come from the heart thanks to Cat’s amazing voice. The pace of the music is slow and sultry. The hugely talented Blueswater band members provide the drums, piano and double bass accompaniment live. It takes real skill to not only play the music but to also add real emotion to it.

The deep rich vocals tie in so well with the note perfect backing to produce a truly delightful musical experience. The story of taboo love is an added bonus, the cherry on the cake. The story fitted in well with the mood set by the music.  The audience were enchanted by the showmanship.

This was a performance that ended too soon. A fabulous rich experience which combined gorgeous music with high quality storytelling. This hidden gem is a worthwhile discovery for lovers of great music and cabaret fans alike, it is a divine combination.
