Raising Money For Nepal

Nepal Mini Mela
Newcastle The Biscuit Factory
Monday 25th May 2015

The Nepal  Mini Mela festival will be taking place on Monday 25th of May at the Biscuit Factory; a day of live music, crafts, food and fun stuff, all to raise some much needed funds to help those affected by the recent earthquake's in Nepal.

The Mini Mela festival is a music for charity event to support those affected by the earthquake which hit Nepal on 25th April 2015 and the subsequent earthquake that struck on May 12th this year.

The earthquake's have had a devastating effect - killing more than 8,000 people, making most homes and buildings in
Kathmandu and wider Nepal  uninhabitable, flattening historic buildings, and disrupting the water supplies and infrastructure.

The death toll is expected to rise even higher as supply shortages, sanitation difficulties and disease spread throughout the affected areas.

The organisers were deeply shocked and saddened by the massive devastation caused, especially as some of them have close friends, family and loved ones in Kathmandu (one of the most affected areas). They would like to help the victims in any way possible and let them know we are doing what we can to support them through this difficult time.  This lead to the creation of the Nepal Mini Mela.

A small group of local musicians and artists have come together to organise a one day festival, featuring 12 + stalls, live bands, music workshops and traditional Nepalese food. The venue is the Biscuit Room at the Biscuit Factory, a fantastic space which has been kindly given to host the festival. The biscuit factory have also pledged 10% of all their takings on the day towards our charitable cause.

Our stalls consist of local independent businesses including "Jess and the Argonaughts", "Keep sake Jewellery" and "Thread Spider" as well as many, many more selling items from Knitwear, to vegan chocolate, to hand-made furniture.  Stall holders are also donating a at least ten percent  of their earnings to the cause.

Live bands will be playing throughout the day with a mix of solo artists and full bands; headlined by the locally famous Nick Pride and the Pimptones, supported by many other great bands such as Grand Father Birds, Velvoir and Grasscutter. A truly eclectic mix of music for people of all ages to enjoy (Full listings have been attached). All local musicians are contributing both their time and talents to raise funds for those suffering in Nepal. It's truly great to see the community of empathy and altruism from all parties.

There will be music workshops taking place from 12:00 until 3:00 including Music Hands  amazing Iband, Michael Freeman's Junk Percussion workshop and Drum Youngs Samba Orchestra. These workshops offer the chance for people of any age or musical ability to have a go at making music.

Kind donations for our raffle from various local businesses  around the Newcastle area have contributed to raising funds. Supporting businesses  include;  Arthur T Sharps Tattoo studio, Ouseburn Farm, The Ship Inn and the Tanners Arms pub.

The funds raised will go directly to small organisations who are based in Nepal and are directly assisting the local people with the aid and support that they are providing.

Every donation, regardless how small, will make a huge difference, so come along be entertained and support the cause
