Northern Ballet is bringing the classic tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears to life at the Gala Theatre on Wednesday 15 March with three performances including a special relaxed performance.

Jenny Hackwell as Goldilocks and
Lorenzo Trossello as the Blue Bird.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a reimagining of the classic children’s story, telling the tale of a mischievous little girl whose curiosity leads her to a house full of many surprises. Lasting approximately 40 minutes, the ballet has been especially created for children and young families to experience live dance, music and theatre.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears is the latest in the company’s award-winning series of Short Ballets for Small People, following on from the hugely successful Tortoise and the Hare, Three Little Pigs and Elves and the Shoemaker, all of which have been adapted by CBeebies. The production will be accompanied by live music from the Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

Tickets for this production are selling fast with the 2pm and 6pm performances sold out; however there are still tickets remaining for the relaxed performance at 4pm.

Robin Byers, service manager for place and experience said: “We believe that everyone should feel welcome at Gala, and after the success of our first relaxed performance for our pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, we are delighted to be presenting another, this time with the help of Northern Ballet.

“This type of performance is designed to welcome audiences who might otherwise feel excluded from experiencing live theatre. This may include those with an autistic spectrum condition, learning disability or sensory and communication disorder.

“With a relaxed performance, we aim to create a less formal, more supportive environment. The audience are free to talk or move around if they need to, and a ‘chill out’ space is available for anyone who feels they would like to take a break. Lighting, sound and special effects are slightly altered to reduce anxiety levels, but the production remains the same as much as possible. Staff are trained to create a friendly setting and assist with any additional needs our patrons may have.”

Tickets:
Tickets are still available for the 4pm performance for £6 (£5 concessions) which can be booked online at www.galadurham.co.uk or by calling the box office 03000 266 600 or collecting in person.
