Watch out! There are bears nearby!

The Customs House in South Shields are playing host to a fun new story featuring beadtime stories, the seasons and teddy bears.

Northern company Freehand Theatre, one of the country’s leading theatre companies for children, is bringing its delightful new production Frogs and Snails and Teddy Bear Tales to the Mill Dam theatre this weekend.

Lizzie Allen, writer and director said: “We know that most children are very excited by their birthdays and are counting the hours until the special day arrives.

“Our teddy hero cannot get to sleep on the evening before his birthday. We have woven together a tale about the seasons and about how the years go round and round. Our ideas for the show involve a rotary whirligig clothes line and a lot of washing!”

The play is performed by seasoned actor, Simon Hatfield, with a head full of stories, busily working in a shed at the bottom of his garden.

Simon added: “This show is a lot of fun to perform. We have spring circuses, teddy bears picnics and hibernating winter bears. We also have gorgeous music composed specially for the show and a very intriguing theatre set.”

The play is now on national tour with performances up and down the country.

Children are invited to bring a well-loved teddy to share the performance with them. The play is aimed at three to seven year-olds but there are plenty of elements in the play to entertain the whole family, young and old alike.
